The Catskill Art Society (CAS) seeks a part-time Gallery Assistant to partner with key staff and volunteers to successfully run daily operations of our multi-arts venues. The position will support programming by assisting with gift processing and acknowledgements, artist communication and booking, marketing, outreach, volunteer recruitment, office operations, and visitor services. The Gallery Assistant will report to the Executive Director and work occasionally with Board members.
- Opening, closing, maintaining, attending visitors and callers at the CAS Arts Center facility, and as requested at the Laundry King venue.
- Presenting a friendly, well-informed, helpful face to the public as the primary representative of CAS to visitors.
- Assisting the Executive Director in membership and donor correspondence, banking, database management, and basic research as requested.
- Preparing CAS venues, equipment, and furniture for events, meetings, and gallery installation as requested.
The successful candidate must be well-organized, flexible, focused, entrepreneurial, diplomatic, community-minded, and detail-oriented. S/he must be a both a motivated self-starter and a communicative team player with the good attitude, work ethic, and adaptability to work on many projects simultaneously. Availability on weekends and occasional evenings is required.
Essential skills include: excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication; competence with Microsoft Office Suite, social media, email marketing, and basic image editing; and appreciation for fine and performing arts. Experience in office management, customer service, and/or marketing is ideal.

Salary and Benefits:
The position is part-time and requires year-round residency in the Catskills region. Weekend coverage is required and work hours is focused around Friday - Sunday schedule with additional coverage on an ad hoc basis. Competitive hourly compensation, commensurate with experience.
