Join CAS at the Laundry King at 65 Main Street, Livingston Manor, NY for a special screening of the classic film Blackboard Jungle (1955), featuring a talkback with presenter Lawrence Budner. March is National Youth Art Month, a time to celebrate education in and through the arts--making it a perfect time to see this powerful and relevant movie.
Blackboard Jungle, adapted from Evan Hunter's novel, follows a teacher's harrowing experiences in New York's inner-city school system. Sidney Poitier plays a troubled youth in his memorable debut. This was the first film to feature rock music--Bill Haley's "Rock Around the Clock" is played over the opening credits.
Lawrence Budner, a professor of Film Studies at Rhode Island College, is a part-time resident of Bethel, NY and is currently writing a book on Blackboard Jungle.
Runtime: 101 minutes. This film is not rated (NR). Contains some moderate violence.
This event is free and open to the public, and donations will be accepted at the door. Presented as part of the "CAS Film Club" series.
