October 1, 2009 - Proposal Deadline
There is an October 1, 2009 proposal deadline for artists interested in submitting an application for the 2010 Exhibition Season. (This is not a postmark deadline.) All proposals must include a cover letter with 2010 availability, a resume, a short bio (no more than 3 sentences), an artist statement regarding the proposed work, and a minimum of ten proposed images on a CD. No slides please. Proposals must be sent to CAS, c/o 2010 Exhibition Season, PO Box 991, Livingston Manor, NY 12758 or dropped off at the CAS Arts Center, 48 Main Street, Livingston Manor, NY no later than 5pm on Thursday, October 1st. All proposals are reviewed by an outside jury panel of independent curators that changes each year. CAS will notify all applicants before the end of the year. Please note that artists who presented their work as part of the 2009 Season will not be eligible to re-apply until 2011. Please email Kathryn@catskillartsociety.org with questions.

ACT UP! Teen Theater will perform an original radio play by Ramona Jan at 7:30pm - Admission $10 for member; $15 for non-members. Doors open at 7pm.

CLASS ADDITION:
SUMI-E CLASSES IN AUGUST
Roberta Rosenthal will continue her Sumi-e Japanese & Chinese Brush Painting classes on Tuesdays, August 11, 18, 25 & September 1 from 1-4pm at the Arts Center. No previous experience required. The fee for Members is $125; Non-members $135 or single class $30. Study and practice traditional and modernist Asian painting techniques. Beginners to advanced students welcome. Learn how to grind ink, basic brush strokes, calligraphy, bamboo, chrysanthemum, orchid, plum blossom front the instructor’s workbook. Advanced students can work on landscapes, animals or complex compositions. Call for materials list.
CAS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

View Points Artist Talk
Installation artists Michael Clyde Johnson and Yeon Jin Kim spoke eloquently about their work to Executive Director, Kathryn Tufano, at the artist talk for their shared show, View Points: Artifice & Reality, on Saturday, June 27! Twisted Sisters, upcoming exhibition
August 15 – September 27, 2009
Twisted Sisters will feature work by artists Suzanne BeVier, Elizabeth Ennis, and Ramona Jan. Please join us on Saturday, August 15 for an Artist Talk at 4pm and an opening reception from 5-7pm.
2009 CAS members show
The 2009 CAS Members Show & Holiday Fair Exhibition will run from November 21 – December 30 with an opening reception on the 21st from 2-4pm. Up-to-date CAS members can submit up to two works for this non-curated show. All work must be for sale. Drop-off dates will be announced in the fall.

NEW Exhibition up at the BVI
CAS, in collaboration with the Beaverkill Valley Inn in Lew Beach, NY, has hosted an ongoing off-site art exhibition in the reception and bar areas of the BVI throughout the last year. The new exhibition entitled, Summertime in the Beaverkill, is the third in the series and continues to feature the work of local artists. |
