fiber arts residency

Catskill Art Space and Gael Roots invite fiber artists to apply for a week-long fiber arts residency over September 7 - 15, 2024. Submissions are due April 29, 2024.

Fiber artists are encouraged to apply for a fiber arts residency in a scenic farm and homestead in Livingston Manor, NY. Jointly hosted by Catskill Art Space (CAS) and Gael Roots, artists are encouraged to utilize the cultivated and wild dye plants, the fiber flax crop, and wool from the Icelandic and Shetland sheep. They are invited to participate in farm activities (including farm-to-table meals) and interact with the farm team, local artists, and farmer and fiber artist Amy Gillingham, and fiber artist Samm Kunce. Gael Roots values community connection and gathering together around food and practice. The farm is nestled atop a mountain on the edge of the high Allegheny plateau with spectacular views. There are 150 acres of fields and forest with trails. The farm is 5 miles from CAS and Livingston Manor’s downtown.

The artist is provided a private bedroom and shared bathroom, with three meals daily. They will have their own sun-filled south-facing 19 x 7’ studio in the farmhouse for nine days over September 7 - 15, 2024. The fiber artist can access a Schacht baby wolf floor loom if desired. Six treadles, four harnesses. We also have an inkle loom. Spinning wheels, drop spindles, and cards would be available. Some dye pots, an outdoor burner, and a fire pit are also available. CAS will provide an artist honorarium of $1,500, which can be applied to travel. Artists are invited to present their work and practice to the public at CAS on the culmination of the residency on September 14, 2024.

Submissions are due April 29, 2024.

Ardsley choreographic residencY

In 2018, the Dance Gallery Festival began a residency program in collaboration with Catskill Art Space for artists to develop new works. This residency takes place over fall 2024 and is an all inclusive residency, offering travel from NYC, accommodations, meals, rehearsal space, a competitive stipend and a community showing at the end. These moments have been fruitful for choreographers workshopping new dances, giving space and inspiration to create in the picturesque Catskill mountains. Please visit back for more details on calls to submit.
